Why can it be still called a break ?

ok so im so very confused about my ex . me and my ex have been going out for 5 months and because it was comming close to summer and the fact that my friend saw my ex( aka the boyfriend at the time) holding hands with some girl he txted and told me . so i went and txted the ex and asked him wld he like to go on a break for the summer and he said yeah and that he loves me ( it confuses me that he said he loved me ) anyways so a week later my ex changes his status on facebook to say hes going out with someone new ( me and him where still a couple at the time but on a break ) . but the thing i dont get is why is he trying to make me jealous if me and him are over over or is he trying to make me jealous so he can get back with me in september. i realy do like him and evryone says me and him are so good togther . his new gf is french and hasnt got a word of english . one day i went over to his place to see mutual friends and he and the new gf where there and me and the mutual friend and him and her played poker and i caught him checking me out a few times and wen mine and his song came on he and i sang along with out realising and then he started poking his gf and starting at me . he hasnt said anything bad to me so im so very confused . are me and him over over or our we on a break
