Promotion to E2 in the Army Reserves, possible ASAP?

I'm a new recruit in the Army Reserves. I currently am set to attend Basic Training in May of 2010. I have spoke to another soldier that has attended basic training that was recruited by my recruiter and informed me that he never got a promotion although he attended all the DEP functions he was asked to attend. Yet, his (and my) recruiting stated if you attend the DEP functions it would be an automatic promotion. I have attended most of mine so far, but yet my recruiter won't even inform me of my progress or what I need to do in order to move forward in getting promoted. I have been processed into my unit and attended BA this weekend with them. My question is basically (and please not that I am in the Reserves), how can I get promoted faster? I've read some articles and basically they explain it as I can be promoted as soon as I hit six months TIS. Well, my Basic Training is in may and will be exactly one year since I've joined. My recruiter procrastinates alot, and may soldiers have told me they didn't get their promotions. Should I talk to my unit about a promotion, or still talk to him since I haven't been to basic yet? And if any, what are ALL the stipulations on a promotion to E2 aside of being in the reserves for 6 months?
